On January 28, 2025, the Route 32 Expansion Project in Costa Rica marked a significant achievement with the official handover of two critical components: the K52 roundabout and the K91 overpass. The ceremony was attended by high-level government officials, including Minister of Public Works and Transportation Mauricio Batalla, as well as representatives from China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), the lead contractor on the project.
During his remarks, Minister Batalla praised the project’s high engineering standards and its strategic importance to the country. He underscored Route 32’s essential role as Costa Rica’s primary logistics corridor, responsible for transporting approximately 80% of the nation’s import and export freight. The completion of these key structures represents a major step forward in easing traffic flow, improving road safety, and enhancing connectivity between the capital and the Caribbean coast.
The Route 32 Project, one of the largest and most complex infrastructure undertakings in Costa Rica’s recent history, reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing national road networks and fostering economic development through improved transportation efficiency.
