On April 11, 2025, a delegation of six Panamanian congressmen conducted an official visit to the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal Project, accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) and representatives of the project consortium, led by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

During the visit, the delegation received a comprehensive technical briefing outlining the project’s current progress, construction milestones, safety protocols, and employment figures. The congressmen also toured key construction zones, gaining firsthand insight into the engineering complexity and scale of one of Panama’s most significant infrastructure undertakings.

The legislators expressed strong support for the project, praising its positive social and economic impact—particularly the emphasis on local hiring. To date, the Fourth Bridge Project has generated employment for nearly 600 Panamanian workers, with an estimated 3,000 direct jobs anticipated at the peak of construction activity.

This visit highlights the growing alignment between the national government and the consortium in prioritizing infrastructure that supports inclusive economic growth, strengthens connectivity, and enhances Panama’s strategic position as a global logistics hub.
