On May 19, 2025, Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada presided over the official completion ceremony of the St. George’s Airport Upgrade Project, joined by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, government ministers, and representatives of the project consortium, led by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).
The event marked the successful delivery of a transformative infrastructure project designed to enhance Grenada’s international connectivity and economic resilience. In his keynote address, Prime Minister Mitchell described the airport upgrade as one of the most important infrastructure undertakings in the country’s recent history, noting its direct impact on improving operational efficiency, passenger capacity, and national competitiveness.
The upgraded St. George’s Airport is expected to play a critical role in stimulating tourism, increasing cargo handling capabilities, and attracting foreign investment, thereby contributing significantly to Grenada’s long-term economic development.
This project is a testament to the strong bilateral cooperation between Grenada and China, and a reflection of CHEC’s commitment to delivering high-quality, future-ready infrastructure across the Caribbean.
