On June 20, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) was awarded the Kingston Port Container Terminal Yard Phase I Project in Jamaica. The project was tendered by Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited, with a construction period of 25 months under an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) general contracting model. The scope includes the full design and construction of modern container yard facilities.

Located just south of the Panama Canal, the Port of Kingston is one of the most strategically positioned deep-water ports in the world and serves as a vital transshipment hub connecting the Caribbean with North and South America. As the seventh-largest deep-water port globally, it plays a critical role in regional trade logistics. Upon completion, this project will significantly enhance Jamaica’s capacity and positioning as a premier maritime hub in the Caribbean, directly contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.

The successful award of this contract represents a milestone achievement for CHEC, marking its formal entry into the Jamaican port and hydraulic engineering sector. It also reflects the effective implementation of the company’s “Four Businesses, Eight Chains” strategic framework, highlighting its ability to seize market opportunities and drive high-quality, international growth.

This win further strengthens CHEC’s market presence and brand influence in Jamaica, laying the groundwork for deeper participation in the country’s infrastructure development and regional maritime connectivity.
