The Chinese Embassy in Jamaica, together with the Permanent Mission to the International Seabed Authority, hosted a grand reception on September 25 to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and to welcome the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, Her Excellency Wang Jinfeng.
The event brought together more than 400 distinguished guests, including Jamaican government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the Chinese community in Jamaica. Eighteen employees from CHEC Jamaica’s office and project teams were invited to attend the celebration.
In her remarks, Ambassador Wang Jinfeng highlighted China’s progress in high-quality development and reaffirmed China’s commitment to advancing the strategic partnership between China and Jamaica. She expressed optimism for even deeper cooperation in infrastructure, trade, and cultural exchange.
Representing the Jamaican government, Minister of State Alando Terrelonge extended warm congratulations to China on this significant anniversary. He commended the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project, being constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), as a model of cooperation and innovation that is improving connectivity and supporting Jamaica’s economic growth. Minister Terrelonge also reiterated Jamaica’s firm adherence to the One China principle.
The evening featured a vibrant program of cultural performances, photo and video exhibitions, and interactive displays celebrating the friendship between both nations. A special highlight was the performance by CHEC Jamaica employees, who delighted the audience with renditions of the iconic reggae song “One Love” and the Beijing 2008 Olympic theme “You and Me.” Their performance symbolized the shared spirit of unity, friendship, and collaboration that continues to define the bond between China and Jamaica.
Through its projects and community engagement efforts, CHEC Jamaica remains proud to contribute to the lasting friendship and development partnership between the two countries.
