Recently, the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project successfully carried out Jamaica’s first dynamic compaction replacement test on a coastal soft foundation section—marking a major breakthrough in foundation treatment under complex geological conditions.
Located in a low-lying coastal plain with mangroves and soft, highly compressible silt, the test section posed significant construction challenges. To improve bearing capacity and control uneven settlement, the project team adopted the dynamic compaction replacement method after extensive research and technical evaluations. Given that this technology was being applied in Jamaica for the first time, technical experts conducted multiple reviews and provided detailed explanations of Chinese standards and parameters, ultimately earning the client’s approval.
The project team implemented meticulous planning, strict safety training, and close quality control throughout construction. Specialized equipment and monitoring instruments were used to ensure precise control of energy levels, spacing, and compaction effects. Post-test analyses confirmed that the results met expectations.
This successful trial demonstrates the project’s active promotion of Chinese engineering technologies abroad and provides a solid foundation for future soft ground treatment works, contributing to higher technical and management standards for the project.
