On October 13, Xu Xueyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Panama, met with José Luis Andrade, Panama’s Minister of Public Works, to discuss and exchange views on the progress of the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal Project. The meeting was also attended by Counsellor Zhou Quan, Senior Advisor Edgar Hernández, and project representatives.


Ambassador Xu emphasized China’s close attention to the project, noting its significance as a key livelihood and infrastructure initiative for Panama. She underscored the importance of ensuring that project implementation proceeds smoothly without external interference. Minister Andrade reaffirmed his government’s strong support, highlighting that President Mulino has repeatedly praised the project’s progress. He also expressed the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating coordination among relevant government bodies to address outstanding issues.


Both parties engaged in detailed discussions on topics including payment schedules, labor quotas, municipal taxes, and the East Interchange works.


This high-level dialogue reflects the shared determination of both China and Panama to advance this landmark project. Currently, overall progress has reached approximately 28%. Moving forward, the project team will continue to plan proactively and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency to ensure timely delivery, contributing “CHEC momentum” to Panama’s economic development.
