On November 27, the NMIA Runway Extension Project in Jamaica successfully completed the temporary relocation works at Runway 12, laying a solid foundation for subsequent airport expansion activities.
The works included converting offshore vertical approach lights to embedded runway lighting, relocating the PAPI system, adjusting runway markings, and ensuring safe and compliant aircraft guidance during construction. The project team implemented a non-disruptive construction plan, efficiently coordinating resources and utilizing limited operational windows to maintain uninterrupted airport operations.
Despite challenges posed by an accelerated schedule and hurricane-related damage to airport facilities, the project team met this critical milestone as planned. The achievement demonstrates CHEC’s strong execution capability, effective emergency management, and commitment to safety and high-quality project delivery.
