Recently, CHEC Americas hosted a foreign language–themed speech contest in Panama under the theme “Implementing the New Blueprint and Advancing Toward the 15th Five-Year Plan.” Mr. Zhou Quan, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Panama, attended the event. A total of 22 contestants from regional departments, country offices, and project teams across the Americas participated.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Jiang Houliang, General Manager of CHEC Americas, noted that foreign language speech contests are an effective platform for enhancing language proficiency, promoting cultural exchange, and inspiring innovative thinking. He emphasized that, as an international company, successful localization depends on the ability to communicate effectively with communities, government authorities, and stakeholders in their native languages. Highlighting the importance of Spanish and English for professional growth, he encouraged employees to embrace multicultural environments, continuously improve their language skills, and pursue excellence.

The competition was divided into English and Spanish categories. During the finals, participants shared personal stories illustrating CHEC Americas’ achievements in project management and market development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Through practical examples, they explored the company’s “Platform Company + Industrial Leadership” 3.0 strategic evolution, reflecting the responsibility, vision, and confidence of international engineering professionals in the new era.

After a competitive final round, Chen Haohe from the Colombia MAR 2 Project won First Prize. Second Prizes were awarded to Yang Zhankun (Panama Fourth Bridge Project), Zheng Junlin (Northern Jamaica Villa Project – Phase I), and Shao Qi (Costa Rica Route 32 Project). Third Prizes were received by Sun Xiaoshuai and Li Sheng (Panama Fourth Bridge Project), Cheng Yuan (Costa Rica Route 32 Project), Sun Kai (Jamaica Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project), and Zhuge Bin (Jamaica Road Projects Cluster).

Following the event, contestants visited the Panama Fourth Bridge Project, touring key construction areas including the East Main Pier M3 and the East Approach Bridge. The project team provided an overview of the project scope, key construction techniques, and overall progress, with a focus on main bridge works and phased achievements. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on technical features, management practices, and project highlights.
