Fourth Bridge

The Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal is a landmark infrastructure project located in Panama City, designed to significantly enhance the country’s transportation network. The project includes the construction of the main bridge, viaducts, and interchanges on both ends. Its centerpiece is a striking three-span steel-concrete composite cable-stayed bridge, measuring 965 meters in total length (240m + 485m + 240m). The bridge features a distinctive H-shaped main tower standing approximately 186 meters tall, with a 75-meter navigation clearance, and a deck width of 36.87 meters.

Engineered to overcome complex challenges such as high seismic risk, deep foundations in soft soils, and construction constraints near active shipping routes, this project represents a major feat of modern infrastructure development.

The Fourth Bridge is currently the largest single bridge project undertaken by a Chinese enterprise in Latin America, and the most significant economic and trade collaboration between China and Panama to date. Upon completion, it will transform mobility for over 2 million people, offering faster and more efficient access between Panama City and the country’s interior. It will also stimulate growth in transportation, commerce, and tourism—driving economic development and improving quality of life.

The project has earned multiple international accolades, including “Infrastructure Financing of the Year: Central America”, “Traffic BIM Engineering Innovation Award”, and “Transport – Bond of the Year, Latin America” at the IJ Global Awards 2024.
